One of the more interesting facts of life is none of us really know how long we are going to live. Many life expectancy calculators will show mid 70s to mid 80s for someone in average health but the reality is we have no idea.

Time Horizon

How would it change your budget or spending plan if you knew how long you would live? What would you spend money on? What wouldn't you spend money on?

Some of us are natural savers and others are natural spenders (live in the moment). A helpful thought exercise for both would be look through your budget and spending and ask the following:

How would I adjust if I knew I would die in 1 year?

How would I adjust if I knew I would die in 5 years?

How would I adjust if I knew I would die in 10 years?

How would I adjust if I knew I would live to life expectancy?

How would I adjust if I knew I would live well beyond life expectancy?

One of the items that stuck out to me as I did this personally was dollars spent to foster and mentor relationships seem like dollars well spent regardless of the time horizon (obviously within reason). Also the recognition that this spending plan doesn't just impact me. It impacts spouse but then kids and others as well.
